Peyronie’s Disease

Peyronie's Disease

Having a curved erection is common and not necessarily a cause for alarm. However, in some cases, the bend is significant, resulting in pain and may interfere with sexual function. Peyronie’s disease can be a serious and painful condition caused by the development of scar tissue that forms inside the penis.

The cause of Peyronie’s disease isn’t completely understood by doctors, however, a variety of factors appear to be involved. Signs and symptoms from the condition may appear suddenly or develop gradually.

Causes of Peyronie's Disease

Each side of the penis contains a sponge-like tube called the corpus cavernosum, which contains many tiny blood vessels. Each one of these tubes is encased in a sheath of elastic tissue (tunica albuginea), which stretches during an erection. When sexually aroused, blood flow to the chambers increases causing the penis to expand and stiffen into an erection.

Researchers believe the disease generally develops from repeated penile injury, typically during sex, athletic activity, or as the result of an accident. During the healing process, scar tissue known as fibrous plaque, forms in a dis-organized manner. The hardened scar tissue restricts flexibility, causing the penis to bend or curve when erect. Although, the pain may ease over time, the bend in the penis can remain a problem. In other cases that don’t seem to revolve around an injury, Peyronie’s disease can develop over time and may be linked to genetics.

Symptoms and Conditions:

For many men, the symptoms from Peyronie’s disease may cause stress and anxiety. The scar tissue associated with the condition, may shorten the penis and it can be felt under the skin. There is a noticeable bend curving up, down or to one side. This can all prevent a man from having sex or might make it difficult to achieve or maintain an erection.

The Platelet Rich Plasma treatment is clinically proven to dissolve the plaque, straighten the curved penis and restore sexual functions. This treatment has helped men across the nation gain confidence and achieve a more satisfying sex life.*
